I know I can give them the rind (and I don't eat way down to the green so they'll get some good stuff on my piece-can't say the same for dh) but what about the slimy guts w/ the seeds? Is that ok to give them at this age? I wasn't sure if the seeds would be too big.

It may be to big...but if it is (they will not eat it)...but if you are giving them scraps make sure they are getting chick grit to help them digest the food

thanks-they are out on the dirt plus have sand in the coop so they should have plenty of grit. I may just freeze the guts for now and save them for hot days (I put the rinds in the freezer for tomorrow and the next day).

I gave my silkie chicks canalope guts when they were that age and they wouldn't touch the seeds, but went bonkers for the rest of it. I did have to cut it up into little bite size pieces, because they would just get the whole string otherwise, and they didn't like that! I'm telling you, my little chickens are the biggest chickens around! Scared of everything!

If your chickens have sand and or out on the dirt, they can basically eat anything they want. There is only a few (handful) of things that a chicken should not eat (funny thing is that they won't eat the bad stuff if good chicken food and greens are available) and few they are indeed. The seeds will likely be ignored because they are just to big at the moment. Give em the guts and watch them go nuts!

Gave them the guts today. I put oatmeal on top so they would try them and they ate them right up! They would take the seeds and keep smacking them on the ground or pecking at them but I don't think any of them ate seeds. They kept wiping their beaks too. So funny.
