Can 5 weeks olds eat laying pellets? cumbles are such a waste!

Mine are about that age, and from what I have read, no keep them on it. I raised mine too, and give them something to do, I added a branch for perching, a mirror and they keep the feed in the feeded mostly...

I saw some Flock Raiser at the TSC in Dallas a few days ago. Don't know what part of Acworth you're in, but it may be close enough for you.

I would keep them on crumbles a little longer, but raise the height of the feeder so they just can reach over the edge and peck at the food. About the middle of their neck when they are standing up straight should do it. Much less mess at that height.

Thanks Southpaw I'll check it out.

For what it's worth, I switched my pullets to layer crumble at around 8 weeks. Probably not ideal, but they're doing great. I give scratch daily and a little extra protein in the form of tuna. I had read that the extra calcium could be detrimental to their kidneys, but haven't seen any sign of it. They also get some yogurt as a treat and whatever they can find in their run. They are happy and healthy and two of them are now laying an egg a day and the other two are about to start laying.

Might try a handmade feeder , I use one of those plastic coffee jugs and cut holes in the flat sides ( leaving the corners in) about 1.5 to 2 inches from the bottom , cut the holes big enough for them to get their heads in .. fill the bottom with feed and they will stick the head in and eat without so much spillage , i've used thase for some time now and it cut down waste by 75%
