I went out to their coop today and there was a white egg, about the same size as our bantams egg in the nest box. Most of the chicks are still making baby noises but one is making adult noises. They are fed growers feed but I have spotted them going into the big girls coop and eating their layers the odd time. They also eat the grit I leave out. Is it possible, I would've thought they are too young.

One of the light Sussex has quite pink comb and wattles but they're not fully developed. It's grit, not oyster shell. We have 1 slw, 2 light Sussex and 1 ?, sold as a welsummer, definitely not a welsummer, that's the one making adult noises and the slw has started trying to make adult noises.

Thanks for that. One of the bigger hens must have gotten into their coop without us noticing. I'll have to keep an eye on them

I once had a hen that would escape her pen go into another pen and lay an egg in that nest even though that flock would harass her. I don't even know how she knew there was a nest in there because she had never lived in it. She was one of my only white egg layers and there were none in that coop.

Lol. You'd love to ask why. I'd say that's probably it with us too. I figured they're too young, but said I'd ask the experts. I have had hens lay at four months ish. But they looked much more adult at that stage than these guys. We only have one white egg hen so we ll so should be easy enough to keep an eye out

I only have 11 laying hens and then 17 younger 13 week olds. Today I got 14 eggs! 3 of them are quite small. The young ones are barnyard mixes that I incubated. I know they were born February 18th. It is only May 16th. I was not expecting eggs until mid-summer from any of them.
