Hi there, we had an incident a few weeks back with a young sebright cockeral (about 10 weeks old) and our cat where his leg was ripped off completely. the cat managed to grab hold of him under a door to the room where our brooder box was. Completely unexpected. He seemed to be in not too bad shape considering his ordeal and the wound was neat but we were completely devestated and called our friend to cull him straightaway to end any suffering.

Now just out of interest, would he have been able to survive? Has anyone known of a one legged bantam?

Yeh, they can. I've known of several bantams that did well with one leg. But none of them suffered the kind of trauma yours did. My feeling is you did the kindest thing possible for him.

Thank you - good to know we probably did the right thing. He was the only hatchling out of a clutch anyway so was going to be difficult to integrate especially as he was a boy.
