Can a chick live without a wing?

Hey guys.

Have a cat attack last night. One of my chicks, who is maybe 2 weeks old, got it’s wing pulled off.

It’s walking around with the others, though (in true chicken form) sometimes picking at it. >.<

I should cull it, right? I mean...can a chicken live without a wing?

Yes, if it heals up. You need to put antibacterial ointment on it, and probably blu kote to prevent pecking.

It seems possible for it to live without a wing. My sister has one without a tail. Birds can live with a broken wing so no wing shouldn't be much different. Watch it closely for infection and i would separate because chickens are drawn to peck at blood. You should put some anti bacterial stuff on it.

No. In this case, it is a very clean break.

It is lucky. It should be just fine, i would definitely put anti bacterial ointment on it.

Keep an eye on it but if it doesn't get infected it should be fine. It will need a lower roost though to step up on

Update: I never managed to catch it to put on ointment, and sort of figured it would either make it or not.

Not only is it doing fine, but I’m getting the sense its the dominat bird in the flock.

She is one bad chicken.
