Can a chicken hatch quail?

Hi! I’m new and unsure if this should be in the quail section. I don’t have quail, but would like to one day, and I wasn wondering if a broody mama could hatch out quail. I’ve heard the eggs can be squashed, but what if a lighter breed was used? I imagine it’s possible, but difficult. Does anyone have experiences with this? I don’t know if I should be asking this here or in the quail section, I just came to BYC.

Do you have a trusted small broody chicken?

I tried with my Silkie. She seemed to know they weren't her eggs and kept kicking them out of the nest. Maybe another bird wouldn't be so picky.

A silkie, serama or bantam game hen would be my picks. But they may not be good mothers. From what I heard, and saw a bit, quail chicks act different from chicken chicks. They get lost easily, get chilled faster and have smaller mouths

I don’t plan on trying it now, (my pullets aren’t even laying yet but 26 weeks old) I was just curious. It’s probably possible but difficult, since the quail are so tiny, and in the long run, need different feed. Maybe one day I could give it a shot.
