Hi all,
I was concerned about mixing my younger and older chicks but I needed have been they all get on like a house on fire. So much so that I'm concerned, one of the 16 week old chickens perches (straddles very uncomfortably) over two of my younger (not so small 7 week old) chicks at night. While this is all very sweet, I have one question. Can it squash them? I don't want to wake up one morning and find the smaller chicks mothered to death. Is this normal, What do you think?
Thanks in advance for your time.

I don't think it's likely that they would smother them, but picking on can happen. Sounds like it's going fine, I'd just keep a close eye.

I agree with LauraJean. At 7 weeks old, the younger chicks can take it. In all likelyhood, they're probably the ones snuggling under the bigger bird and not the bigger bird choosing to sit on them.
