Can a hen die from being eggbound for two days?

I am so confused. I lost the hen that had recuperated in my basement once before. The only thing I can think was that she was eggbound. Her comb drooped for two days, but unless someone else was laying two eggs a day, she could only have stopped laying yesterday. She seemed fine this round other than the drooping comb. Then this afternoon, she was just dead.

Any ideas? As a group, these hens are healthy - and laying like maniacs!

I'm sorry for your loss...
It takes a huge toll on them if the egg is softshelled, or too large...
Remember Elvis stroked out on the hopper too...same thing...

Shoot. I probably should have put her in the basement sooner. She recovered so beautifully before. At least I'll know next time.

I'm sorry for your loss. She could have ruptured a blood vessel while trying to pass a large egg..it happens very fast and is often fatal.

to answer your question> yes they can (it just depends on many things and you will never know for sure without a necropsy)
