Can a bird with lavender (either pure lavender, Isabella, blue cream, etc) have dark hackles? I have a friend with a boy who is a blue cream silkie, and he has dark hackles, but his body is very light, like what I would expect to see with lavender dilution. But the neck feathers are so dark that it seems they aren’t diluted.

She just hatched 3 chicks out and to me they look like 2 blues and 1 black. She thinks that at least one of the eggs came from her lavender hens though. So if the roo was a lavender diluted blue cream, the chick would have to be dilute lavender also if the hen is lavender. Here is a pic of the male and the chicks. She does also have a buff boy, so I suppose it is possible he could be the father as well. But mainly I am just wondering if this blue cream is actually a blue buff which are a blue based rather than lavender based bird. Tagging a few who might have an idea!

The rooster appears to be blue paint, maybe Splash.

I see no picture of the chicks.

No dark hackles aren't present in pure lavender. It maybe possible to get some streaky type stuff happening on a Lavender Bird with Blue, but that's more seen in the shafts in random spots.

You mentioned Isabel, which I have, but he's not Silkie, but has a small percentage of Silkie.

I have an Isabel ameraucana, and she also doesn’t have any dark feathers. But I wasn’t sure if maybe it was because she is a hen. Your boy is so pretty. I don’t know if genetically Isabella is the same as “blue cream” in silkies (why do silkies have to have their own name for every color 🤦‍♀️) But I just assumed they would be similar since both are supposed to have lavender over another pattern.

Isabel is Lavender Duckwing.

I don't have answer to why Silkies have their own name for colors).
Blue Cream is Lavender X Buff in Silkies.
