A friend of mine has 2 parrots, today one of them showed respiratory distress then died. She's wondering if parrots can have tylan, or if that's specifically for poultry use? If they can, what's the dosing per weight of the bird?

It would be best to consult a vet. I cannot find specific info on tylosin (Tylan) use in parrots. Avianmedicine.net lists it for use in quail, pigeons, cranes, emus, cockatiels. They list a dosage at 15-25 mg per Kg (each 2.2 pounds) 3 or 4 times a day, preferreing the lower dose in some birds. Giving injections can cause tissue damage in birds, even chickens. That is why a lot of chicken people use Tylan orally.

That is good. Ciqala, how is Cleopatra doing? I sometimes recommend your thread about him to others wanting to know about leg problems and slipped tendons.

Cleopatra has her good and bad days. She's about 4yrs old now, the past year or so I've had to keep her leg/foot wrapped w/vet wrap and gauze pads for padding 'cuz the part of her foot that touches the ground was starting to scab but we cleared it up easily. I'm considering keeping her inside this winter when the ground freezing 'cuz I'm noticing her laying down/resting a lot more than usual. Frozen ground was always tough for her so I'd lay hay really thick for her to walk on in her enclosed yard. She's a high maintenance hen, but she's my baby.
