Can a rooster breed a duck?

We have an Auracauna roo that is convinced that our duck is hen. He keeps trying to breed the duck. Will he fertilize her eggs? I don't really want duck/chicken hybrids running around the yard

No, since they are two different species they cannot mate. Their reproductive parts are...incompatible.

I read that they could.. sense I’m having the same problem with my rooster and hen duck.. that they COULD. It is slim but they could. And then it would just be a sterile chick...
 
Their sex organs are different and don't fit with each other. The rooster can certainly try, but his sperm won't make it inside the duck. The duck won't be harmed in the process. The opposite scenario though - a male duck trying to mate a hen (chicken) should not be allowed to happen, since the male duck can seriously hurt or even kill the hen in the mating process (ducks are known as "wife beaters" or "rapists" and their males are absolutely brutal, even to their own kind, but more so to a hen that's not physiologically equipped to handle them).
