can a "teenager" live alone for a bit?

I have two 5week old chicks, and it appears one is a rooster that I cannot keep. Luckily I have friends with land who need a rooster. I'm getting another pullet in early July. Is it too early to separate my two and ship the roo to the farm? Will the little girl be lonely? They are pretty much side by side all the time.

I'm also planning on moving them out to their coop and run soon, and wondered if that made a difference on when to separate.

Many thanks

I will have to separate them, as I can't keep "him". I guess you're saying wait until the new pullet arrives?

We kept a rooster for a while after he started crowing by putting him away in a dark crate at night. Are you worried about bothering your neighbors? I would keep the cockerel until the other pullet arrives but I'm a softy :p
