Can an old hen go broody?

I’m looking into getting full size chickens. I’m broke and the neighbor has some older girls but do older chickens go broody? I’m talking 3-5 years old. Does a chicken only go broody when it can lay eggs?
I have an hova bator but I’m not the best at it yet. So broody hen it is.

It’s possible but not guaranteed. I’d look for some local free range eggs. Those will often be fertile and cheap.
