I have a vary small patch of cantaloupes and watermelons behind my back porch. I also planted some dwarf Cavendish Banana trees, which are coming along. I have a few stalks of corn growing along side my Grand Main bananas (which haven't fruited, by the way). Yesterday, after I'd already harvested two cantaloupes that I thought were ripe, I came back this morning and found this one! I didn't pick it because I thought it wasn't ripe enough. Apparently, that was NOT the opinion of the ants! They thought that I would just leave it alone, but I fought them (getting several bites as well), rinsed it off, and cut it up for my chickens. So there! Pictured from left to right, are the ant eaten cantaloupe, the ones I harvested the day before, avocado plants that I'm experimenting with, Grand Main Banana trees, fig trees, and Dwarf Cavendish Banana trees. My chickens are eating some of that cantaloupe!
