  • Say, can anyone answer this question? A neighbor just recently told me that if I had a rooster (I currently only have 7 hens) that my girls would lay more eggs. Is this true?

My little chicky, Cocoa went to God today. No, she WAS recovering. She was flying around and landing on my head, and even coming to me. Then, the UNTHINKABLE happened. My jealous little dog, Squeaky killed her!!!! I'm going to give her away. I've learned TOO MANY LESSONS this week!!

my dog used to do the same. i bought a shock collar and whenever he went near the chickens i pressed the button. it may seem harsh but it is only a small shock and does stop the killing of the chickens

It's a nice thought. I might have done that before she killed the chicken...my husband wants her gone, or he's going to kill her. I must find a new home for her. That's the situation. The chicken I was nursing back to health, an Easter Egger, I named Cocoa, really did something to our hearts. She was starting to recover, flying up on my head and getting on my chair in my room.

UPDATE ON SQUEAKY. Yep. She's still alive. I got a shock, vibration, beep collar for her. When she even looks sideways, she gets a beep. Usually, the beep is the only thing she needs.
Hi folks. Anita here from Rosharon, TX. My babies are now 1 month old, and I'm busy preparing their coop. This is their temporary outside in warm weather.
I've found this video that shows a lady soaking her sick chicken in some Epsom Salts, and the chicken seems to be doing much better.

I did that for a week for my largest hen when she had bumblefoot, 20 min a day . It works for bumblefoot anyway.
Hey folks. I'm working on my backyard chicken run. First, I'm going to level a platform to put my babies in a high house. I've also seen this great video about worming chickens with pumpkin seeds and butter milk. Watch it, if you like.
I think I'd like to order 4 Leghorns. Does anyone know a good place to buy them from? I don't trust Tractor supply anymore, with their bad chicken feed and sponsoring drag queen shows for children.

Hoover Hatchery has free shipping, that's who Tractor Supply gets their chicks from. Since shipping is the highest part of the cost, that makes it a pretty good deal, except that they have a minimum of 15 chicks. I too just want 4 white leghorns, ive seen colored leghorns for sale in the closest town, but i just want the white ones, and i don't like ordering through the mail.
Any advice you give me, I'm listening! I write my own songs and play several instruments. Never written a song about chickens, but there's always a first time! Who knows, they may lay eggs more often, with music???
