Can anybody tell me what breed and gender my chicks are?

Hi everybody,

we got 7 baby chicks about 7 weeks ago. I ordered 5 "grey laying chickens" (which is the same as a Blue de Landes), which were on the listing with a picture similar like this:

and 2 Harco chicks (I don't know if you know this breed, we live in Belgium, so as far as I could find I think the equivalent would be the Black Sex Link), which supposed to grow up looking like this:

However, when I picked up the chicks from the store I straight away noticed that the chicks had fluff on their legs and feet. We already bought adult Harco's before but they did not have feathers on their feet.

They were all very different from each other from the start, so we were not surprised they all are turning out completely different as they grow.

Hope you can identify their breed or at least what mix they are and what gender you think they are.

1. Arwen - supposed to grow up grey, she was born yellow and was the only one starting with grey wing feathers. By now however she is mostly white. With her we are pretty sure she is a female.

2. Lexie - supposed to grow up grey, she was orange with grey as a baby. She now is a creamy colour with some black around her neck. Also with her we're pretty sure she is a female.

Looks like you have a Light Brahma (or possibly a Blue Light) and a Buff Brahma

3. Woo Woo - supposed to grow up grey. She was the first to start growing her wing feathers and the biggest one in the bunch. She has a similar colour to Lexie, but with a bit more speckle in her feathers. Also again, pretty sure she is female.

4. Rumi, supposed to grow up grey. With this one we are almost sure he's a rooster. He and one of the others often do the sparring which none of the others do. He started out orange with faint stripes on his back, like both the Harco's did. His comb was very red from the start, so we are thinkinhing this is a male.

5. Red - supposed to grow up grey. As a chick he was orange with yellowy wings, now turned almost completely red. He is the most dominant of the chicks, does most of the sparring and makes a different sound when he's on the pot of food and the other male comes near. So, seeing his behaviour and the quite red comb we think he's also a male.

6. Jenny - one the Harco's, so she should turn black. She was light brown with 2 stripes on her back as a baby chick. The other Harco was basically the identical, only darker, but she is much smaller now than the other one. We think this is a female.

7. "Black" - the other Harco, really unsure of this one's gender. Born with similar pattern but darker than the other, now turning black with light pattern on her. I could see this one still turning out to be what she is supposed to, with feathers on her feet then. She doesn't do any of the sparring and her comb is much smaller than the other supposed males, but then they are different breeds, so we're hoping this one is also a female.

They look like Brahma or Brahma crosses to me, all of them. Blue de Landes doesn't pop up on a Google search, but the chickens that come up while searching 'landes' are meat birds with naked necks, so these aren't them.

Rumi is the definite cockerel. There's a chance Red is a cockerel, too, but the comb is saying pullet. The rest look like pullets.

Thanks everybody for your answers. They are growing into some beautiful chickens and we love them, it's just very strange that they are not at all what we ordered... I was hoping for at least one of them to turn grey.

It's is in Flemish, so I'll translate what is says: This ash grey chicken has an adult weight of about 2.4 kg (about 5.3 pounds) and therefore belongs to the heavier breeds in our assortment. This chicken lays about 280 eggs per year if given the right food.

In a couple of weeks our chicks will be moving to our horse fields where they have 2 hectares (about 5 acres) to roam around in. It gets quite muddy in places there in the winter. What is your experience with those feet feathers? Will they be a problem in the mud? Our other chickens do not have them so we don't have any experience with that... We were thinking we might have to snip them off in the winter?

I don't know about the feathery feet but the Bleu de Landes in the link looks like Blue Andalusian. Are they a different name for the same bird?
