I bought these three at market
Obviously a roo and two hens( even I know that now! )
They are mating
The roo is crowing, and has huge scary spurs about 2 inches long
And one hen laid one egg today

Colour! I can't seem to find anything that matches, I'm sure they are mixed mutt type pekin but I'd like to have a colour so I can say, I have green Pekins or purple Pekins

The hens are different one is slightly darker
The darker one has copper streaks in her breast feathers
The top neck part seems darker

The pictures are quite accurate its a browny grey

He's red
And gals are crossed red blue.

Also take a pair of pliers and pull his spurs off. He will bleed a lil and freak a lil but be cunffy right away. The more ya do it the less it will bleed or he will freak and after about 5 times he won't even flintch or bleed. I de spur all my boys every other month and to me their legs look a lot healthier and no cuts could happen to my hens.

Thank you, I thought they looked bluish, that explains a lot,
The spurs could do so much damage and I have other chickens so
I will look into de spuring , any ideas how old?!

  • PM nicalandia and ask him to look at these birds and there color, I believe that the Rooster is Chocolate and the hens may be split for Chocolate.

I use channel locks to de spur.

Put at base of spur by leg and twist. It will pop off and be hollow. Again it will bleed but will stop. If to worried about the blood... Just toss some flour on it to stop or slow down the blood flow.

Yes just watched a video, didn't realise it had a inner bit
Think I might go for the file/ sanding it down option
I would imaging it needs good aftercare on the inner bit if you pull the outer shell off?
