Can anyone else NOT get rid of chickens?

PolishPrincess, I couldn't have said it better myself. I get such joy out of my birds (ducks, goose, hens, guineas, turkeys .... ) that I doubt that I'd get rid of anybody. If anything, I take birds others can't, or don't want to, keep! I've got more roosters than good sense dictates, but they're separate from the hens. I dunno --- am I nuts? Probably. Can't be helped.

My live-in works with a guy who routinely gets rid of hens after their 1.5 - 2 yr optimum egg production time .... and I take them FOR FREE !! Just this year I've received 17 beautiful RIR (and some nice black hens which I'm not sure what kind they are ...) and they are absolutely wonderful layers yet. Ya gotta admit --- the price is right.

Yup yup. I am moving across country and can only take 20 chickens and 9 ducks. It is hard for me to try to decide who stays and who goes. Real hard and I have been working on that list for over a month and still working on it. *sigh*
