The subject may not be clear...Momma is brooding her 1 week old babies, and SHE has the mites. With what should we treat her that won't harm the peeps when they're sitting under her? My daughter has heard (from byc) that kerosene was the most effectve treatment, but that doesn't sound like a good idea here. Any input? Thanks.

WELL FOR THE CHICKEN
I would use the sevin %5 dust and dust her box and change litter after putting the dust on the bottom of the litter place

also if she has leg mites you need to put olive oil on her legs first them dust the legs and oil with sevin 5% dust
you will have to do this several times in the next 6 weeks as it takes that long for leg mites to be healed

as for the chicken coop here is the thing

sounds like you need to clean and delouse the chicken houses

I
give the chickens after cleaning and spraying the coop this
2 tbsp of ACV in a gallon of water

also some feed it to all chickens
wet mash probiotic
1 qt of dry crumbles
1/4 cup of yoguart
1-1/2 qt of milk any kind
mix good and feed each adult chicken 3 tbsp of wet mash probiotic

for one hen and chicks
3 tbsp of dry chicken crumbles
3 tbsp of milk any kind
1 tbsp of yoguart
1 tbsp of apple sauce
mix good and feed heen and chicks twice a day

*****I also would take a look at the chicken house and see if any of the building has split boards or knot holes as the mites live there and feed on the birds
thus you can paint the spots of the building with

1 qt of kerosene
1 qt of mineral oil
with paint brush apply to the roosts and knot holes and cracks in the boards

also clean the bedding out of the building and put seven 5% on the floor before putting the beding in

this will build up their systems as the mites and lice have

any questions email me

could be that if she has mites..the chicks might have them too..

you have to be careful about what you expose the chicks to.

The best treatment for lice/mites. Wood ashes!!!!! Mix one part wood ashes to one part dirt and sand. There you go. Let the chickens dust in it. This has been working for years. For leg mites..put Vaseline on the legs.. a good coating, repeat in a week. This will take care of the leg mites. Hope you'll try it. DJ
