We hatched 6 Goldtops and the sexing at day olds has not been as straightforward as we had hoped! They are now 12 weeks and we have what we are pretty sure are 2 girls and 2 boys, but the other two are causing confusion!

Note: These were eBay eggs so well aware they may not be quite right - but we just wanted some broodies and figured they would be Silkie x Something! They do look about right apart from the two unknowns!

Firstly the ones I think I know . . .

Girl 1

Girl 2 (not her most flattering shot!)

Boy 1

Boy 2

Now for the "don't knows" . . .

White, so should be a boy, but "she" looks like a girl to me and is very different to her brothers. Does not have Silkie feathering.

Gold, so should be a girl, but red wattles (and comb under that hairdo!)

Any help you can offer would be wonderful. Thank you!

Thank you!

Goldtops are White (or Gold - I'm not sure but I know it matters for the sex-link!) Silkie X Light Sussex - with the benefits of the broodiness of the Silkie and the normal feathers of the LS. Apparently they make the best mothers! They are increasingly popular in the uk. Not sure if my eBay eggs are the right mix but there is definitely some Silkie in there!

A better picture of girl no. 2:

And another pic of the "don't knows" (brown one on the far right and white one):
