Can anyone ID this baby snake?

A Scarlet King snake sounds kind of pretty. "Sounds' being the operative word. I think if I actually saw one, I'd drop dead from fear!

Update: Oh yeah. I just looked up Scarlet King snake images. Beautiful snake, but, ah, I'd rather it be in someone else's CONTINENT.

I jumped the first time and then remembered the poem: red on black friend of Jack red on yellow kills a fellow.
The scarlet king is opposite in color to the coral snake. pull up pictures of both on the web and then you will be able to see why the poem works. The king snake kills and eats rattle snakes

Good idea to have it memorized or at least burned into your brain ahead of time.
It is unheard of to see a King Snake in Nebraska. Never seen one around here ever, nor has anyone else, probably never will again. Last year my folks and I were walking across the driveway and there was a bitty little King Snake. He was beautiful. My Dad immediately killed it on the spot because he couldn't remember the poem. I was very upset because I wanted to put a canister over it 1st then go look it up but he would not allow it. Well, after the poor beautiful creature was killed I find he was harmless. Poor thing. I'm sure this miss hap has killed many of innocent King Snakes. Probably why we never seem them around. Too many people just don't know the difference and too freaked out, like my Dad, to give the poor thing a chance.

AK, that was fun, but they didn't include the color gray for anything. I couldn't narrow down the criteria. I went to "Simplify" and that didn't seem to help much. But that sure is a fun way to look up snakes.

By the picture provided it appears to be a gray rat snake similar to the ones we have here in northern Alabama.....I have had to put guards on my martin poles,

electric fences around my coops, and sometimes extra small wire around the bottom of the pens to keep them out....I have also seen two at a time occupying

blue bird houses during their mating season....GOOD THOUGHTS !!!! They will also eat rattlesnake babies and copperhead babies....that makes them very

useful around Alabama....we DO NOT KILL rat snakes here. The best thing to do with them is relocate them to the wilder part of the neighborhood and let

them do their natural GOOD things................just saying............................................tt (zip)
