Can anyone identify our chicks?

A chance of one being a speckled Sussex, another a Rhode Island Red maybe. Nothing too prominent yet.

i agree with both of you! one looks like a sussex and the other looks like a RIR (rhode island red) but I think they are red stars!

Speaking of red birds.....I've got a hen that looks like a RIR, but lays green eggs, and had a single feather on each foot. What would you call her, other than a mutt?

To be a "breed" a bird must actually be bred to BE the breed. Each breed has a Standard. Unless the bird generally meets the standard for the breed, it is not that breed.

TSC rarely, if ever, sells true to breed birds, as it is merely a retail outlet, re-seller of hatchery birds.

One expects and usually gets good, healthy, productive red chickens from hatcheries via TSC. They can be very good chickens to be enjoyed. But, getting a Rhode Island Red from TSC? Never gonna happen.

Production reds from TSC are from Mt Healthy and Mt Healthy sells a mixed breed red production bird. That's all they are. They're a mix to create a red layer. They're good egg layers though, but not true to any type of a breed. They're just a great backyard egg laying pet, you'll enjoy them.
