Hi guys,
I'm alan and i'm from india..I'm new to BYC... I'm quite new to chicken breeding.. we had a dozen of chickens before but lost most of them to predation.. :(
Now i have 5 chickens...
It would be helpful if someone could tell if this chicken is a cock(rooster) or a hen... I'm hoping it's a hen...
It is of "Kadknath" breed
native to india(Closely related to silkie)
It is around 6 months old...I did hear it crow once..

Hi Alan and welcome to BYC. I see saddle feathers, so cock-bird I’m afraid :( A stunning fella though :)

More generally, this is a useful link of BYC guides to take a look at - https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/website-announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3/?prefix_id=3

Best wishes
Pork Pie

Hi Pork Pie...Thanks for ur info..
Still hard to believe... i have heard it crow only once... I mean even hens crow occasionaly right? My other cock crows quite frequently which is smaller than this.....and also no long tail feathers..Is that normal for a 6 month old cock..

Moreover i havn't seen it mating with a hen of the same breed while my other rooster does it quite frequently...Is it normal for a 6 month old rooster...
Expecting your valuble comments

Depends on his nature usually young crows as they start learning if there's any signs of lethageric or slow quite
Then u should see for sickness roosters stop crow when they are not feeling welll

Although hens rarely crow to show leadership in the flock
