Before we purchased the ducklings I asked what breed they were as we are all not keen on the look of the Muscovy ducks. The young girl said 1 is a "Pekin Duck" & 1 is a "Pekin X". Can anyone tell us what breed they are from these pictures? As today we went back to the fodder store and a different worker said no the ducks we had in two weeks ago were "Muscovy Ducks". We are all in shock because we were looking forward to having these beautiful looking Pekin ducks!!
Regardless of what breed they actually are we will keep them, they are now part of the family.

Thanks in advance for helping us

I think that the solid colored one is a pekin and the multi-colored one a welsh harlequin.. It will be much easier to determine their breeds once they fully feather out. Have fun with your duckies!!! They are adorable!

I don't know what muscovies look like as ducklings, but I wouldn't worry too much. I would think what they told you at the time of sale is likely to be more reliable than someone's memory of what they had in stock two weeks ago. Good luck!

Those don't look like scovies to me. Their feet and claws aren't big enough...their eyes are the wrong shape...and the bill doesn't look right for a scovie.

The cross DOES look like a welsh harlequin. It could be a wh x peking. If it is, it is most likely a girl (light colored bill with black bean). Here are two of my WH.

Ie never seen a WH duckling so I cant compare and they could be buff but I doubt it as they wouldb be more yellowy lol.

Wow!!! Thanks everyone.... We hope you all are correct

It’s so hard because when you’re at a store purchasing poultry you’re wholly and solely believing in what they are saying because we are new to ducks and as you all know ducklings look so different to a fully feathered duck!!! The store that I got them from don’t sell a huge qty of chooks & ducks as day old chicks or ducklings as we are all living in the metropolitan area that’s why I’m not 100% sold on their names of the breeds. We really like to get our animals as early as possible so we can get a bond with them. We love friendly animals and animals that enjoy human contact

With the cross breed duckling we did have a look on the net before I found this forum site we did come up with the breed of “buff” but now more colouring coming thru I think it is? I had just had a little look on the net for pictures of the “welsh harlequin” as ducklings but I couldn’t really find much but if our little one looks like you babies - Wifezeilla – I’ll be more than happy. Can the Welsh Harlequin’s fly?? Your babies are absolutely pretty looking ducks, and they look soooo happy

I would love to be a duck and move in!!

I did find another feed on the forum: My ducks at 4 weeks old by chilly. They have posted a picture of “Duncan our beautiful Aylesbury” and that duckling looks a spitting image of our “poppy” and that breed is an Aylesbury. I would be happy with either Pekin or Aylesbury as they are a very similar duck.

Thanks once again for everyone’s input

I'd say that the solid yellow one is definately a pekin. The other one I'm not sure of, although it does look like it might be a pekin cross. They're cuties though! I love my pekin and pekin ducklings!

Can the Welsh Harlequin’s fly??

Not really. Mine get maybe 2 ft off the ground and only fly for a few feet.

Mrsquacker,

my personal opinion is that the solid yellow one IS an Aylesbury but not a pure bred because his/her bill is not pink.

Be prepared to have a Large duck:)
