My father-in-law brought us a box of free chickens he got from somebody last summer. There was this guy, two hens and four chicks. One of the hens is the one with him(she looks like a bantam cochin to me? she's sitting on a nest now, fingers crossed she has some fertile eggs), the other was the mama to the chicks and is an ee I think (she has a bearded face and lays greenish-blue eggs).

{Well, I was going to post a picture of two roos that were chicks when we got them but I keep getting an error message saying it's the wrong type of file even though it's a jpeg same as the other one}

He's some sort of cochin mix I believe... or a poor hatchery type. The "birchen" coloration looks too gold-ish to me, though that would be the only way to describe the color.

You're right, the hen is a black cochin.

The roo is Either a Bad Birchen Cochin bantam or a Black Cochin bantam with some serious gold leakage...

I'm going to have to go with a hatchery birchen cochin. Hatchery colors can be a bit off, for example my cuckoo marans has some gold leakage on him. And that hatchery didn't carry any gold cuckoo marans.
P.S. I love cochins, they're my chicken mamas, best broody

I'm gonna go with tubby and fat.

On a serious note, yeah, hatchery quality Cochin. He's got some TINY feet for that body and head though!

I didn't guess cochin because he's just doesn't look like one, haha... And yes, his light color is pretty goldish. So, hatchery quality cochin I can believe after seeing some pics comparing hatchery vs breeder quality of some other breeds. (aussieheelr: that mama is sitting on eggs right now:)
