Metronidazole is one of many drugs that are banned for use in chickens. I have read one study that says it could not be detected for 11 days after the drug was stopped. Eggs should be discarded for 2 weeks and 5 days while using it.

Do you know if there is an egg withdrawal after using the copper sulfate.

I am pretty sure that he has canker. I will try the copper sulfate and see if he improves. Thanks for all the help.

I honestly don't know if there is a withdrawal period for Acidified Copper Sulfate or not.
Since this is a rooster and you likely aren't going to eat him any time soon, then I would keep him separated for treatment.

If you are planning on giving the ACS to your hens as a precaution, you could always observe a withdrawal period of 14 days after the last treatment. You may also find more information in your search, I did not get any results.

Did you see any growths or gunk inside the beak? Any pictures? Metronidazole 250 mg daily for 5 days is the usual treatment for canker. It is found online sold as FishZole 250 mg and it also may be found as API General Cure, but make sure that it has metronidazole listed on the label. Acidified copper sulfate can be used in the water 1/4 tsp per gallon of water for 3 days each month to help prevent the spread to other chickens. The waterers and feeders should be disinfected since canker is easily spread to other birds.

I still wonder about the yellow patches of skin about the face being something else, either favus or scaly leg mites.

What is the dosage for the API General Cure? Do I just put it in their waterer? How many gallons per packet?

Yes & I'm sorry about the multiple posts. My Roo has Canker & some of my ladies are showing symptoms. He is the only one with a growth by his beak & the necrosis inside his mouth.

Get some Metronidazole to treat the rooster. Add some Acidified Copper Sulfate to your flock's water.
You mention necrosis inside the beak is it canker lesions or is the beak rotting?

Canker is contagious and birds are carriers for life. You will likely need to use the Acidified Copper Sulfate once a month to help keep this in check.
