I live on a conservation area and i zipped an email off this morning and they will most likely set some traps and do what needs to be done... (laaa laaa laaaa I dont need to know details...LOL)
Coons can and DO have parasites that can make people very sick. They can kill dogs and cats. You were correct in washing their bowls. My daughter played in the dog water once when she was a toddler. We put a stop to that, but she got very sick and her pediatrician did some investigating and when he found out we had coons and outside dog water he was very concerned. She turned out to be okay, but we started dumping the water in the evening and refilling in the morning. Also, we kept her away from the water.
Little gal or fella was probably scared poo-less and likely regrets having come for a visit. My guess is that you won't see him/her again.
Raccoons from time to time drink water or wash in water I have outside during the day for my cats and forget to empty at night. I've never had a health problem with any of my fur-kids.

the only thing you really have to worry about is raccoon poop. the roundworm they carry can cause serious illness. when i worked as a vet tech, i was constantly hearing stories of people leaving out food for raccoons because they're "so cute," and having to explain to people that they were endangering their families and pets.
sounds like you cleaned up well, and probably have nothing to worry about.
