Really it is hard to be definate on any Silkie that is 5 months 7-8 months, you will notice a difference as they fill out. The blacks look like they are pretty long necked at this point but it could be the way they are standing. Improvements to you flock will depend on how these fill out. Good wing carriage, proper toe placement, fullness of crest, color of comb, any off color in the hackles, all need to be considered when deciding who to mate with whom. Sorry but Silkies take a while to mature and all you can do at five months is guess. I have one I am still guessing the sex of at 5 months. I think it is a pullet but every now and then I just have to wonder. My cockerel is 6 months and is still not mating any of the pullets and the pullets 5 and 6 months old are not laying. I have seen combs turn much redder these last few weeks so I have to wonder, boy or girl. If it is a male he will be the most awesome little boy around if girl then she is so/so.
