The farm and garden store was out of Chicken starter/ grower feed. My fiance brought home gamebird starter/ grower because they told her it was the same.

Can our baby chicks be fed gamebird starter/ grower?

Thank you if you can help.

I've done it, and my chicks seemed to do fine.

Considering how high the protein is, I saved a little money by also giving them some cracked corn once they were a week or two old (because the gamebird starter is high protein, and the corn is low protein, so that worked out to a total protein closer to normal chick starter levels.)

Edit to clarify: I do not think the high protein is harmful to chicks, I just know they do not really NEED it that high.

I agree, I'll mix it with some starter grow and then cracked corn at around 3 weeks old (my chicks are smaller than most), and I've never had any issues.
