I have not bought my chickens yet--I need advice.

I want them to do as much foraging as possible, and I would also like to have eggs as soon as possible. (also, chickie season is winding down) So, I have been considering getting started pullets from MMH. But they are beak trimmed.

Will that adversely their bug catching?

It's difficult for them to forage...I've seen them tilt their heads sideways, but some just don't quite figure it out.

I would strongly recommend checking www.craigslist.com or www.bestfarmbuys.com or even search around on BYC. You can most always find someone that has layin hens available for sale.

Best of luck!
