I had one young hen go broody, then my mama from last year and now.... another hen is going broody. I have to keep removing the eggs from under her to her disliking.
First one is a BO, so I understand that they can be broody. Second one is a GLwynadotte, and whe was a good mom last year, so I do understand that too, but now it's a dominque. I didn't know that they were prone to broodiness. Any ideas on how to stop it?

Can broodiness be contagious? Absolutely! I have 5 out of 13 hens currently hogging the nestboxes, or busy hatching out chicks right now.

Not one of my BO's is even slightly broody, the little brats, but a ton of EE's are.

To break a broody, get her into a wire cage, no nesting material of any kind, so that she can't try to hunker down and try to hatch and so that cooler air can get to her belly. There are some great answers in the search box up in the blue line that is up top and starts with Index, User list, Rules, Search, etc.
Good luck, I'm going to go collaspe before my second broody starts hatching more of her eggs that shouldn't be pipping until at least 2 days from now!

I'm a softie! I set up a box for her and let her be broody too. Now there are 3 sitting. Funny thing is that they swapped seats! Is that typical? I want to take out the eggs under the new one and just spread out the other eggs into the 3 nest sothat there are on 13 and they'll all hatch together. Does that sound like a good idea? ever done that?

thanks.
