Can California Greys lay brown eggs too??

May seem like a pointless question but, I have two young California Grey pullets and I know these birds are usually known for their large white eggs but I remember reading somewhere online that they can sometimes carry the gene for brown eggs? Anyone ever heard of this or had it with one of their chickens?

Since they are from crossing a barred rock and a leghorn, I imagine a brown egg gene is possible. However if you have brown eggs, perhaps you have a barred rock or Dominique.
