We have barn cats, a few years ago one of them tangled with something that broke her lower jaw. She disappeared for several days, and then showed up with the injury. She could not eat even soft cat food, but she could lap up raw eggs. She ate nothing but raw eggs for two weeks before she could mouth the soft cat food. I thought she might even have gone blind in one eye as the pupil was fully dilated. After a month of soft cat food, she started to eat the regular cheapo stuff we supplement the barn cats with. She recovered now and has resumed barn cat duty, the one eye is still dilated just a bit more then the other, but she must be able to see enough for depth perception---she catches birds on the fly. She looks a little skewed jaw with a few missing teeth, but living a normal barn cat life now.
P.S. Before you berate me for not taking the half wild feral barn cat demon to the Vet, you come catch the living maelstrom of talons!
