can chicken face moltin phase at any time around the year? pls see the pics...molting or somehting e

hello everyone,

below i have attached some pics...my two silkie females are loosing feathers...not laying eggs, excpet that, they are healthy, active and eating. i thaught, the molting period just come in september/october thhat is why i am little concern about it.

require assistance if u can please.

can it be sign of another sickness or they are facing molting?

Chickens molt at around 18 months and yearly thereafter, so they can molt any time of the year. Many buy chicks in early spring so many do molt in the fall. Do you have a rooster that may be over mating the hen? It could be a molt, from mating, or from another chicken eating the feathers. Are you seeing a lot of loose feathers in the coop? Molting can occur at an off time if there has been extreme stress, such as running out of water to drink.

thnx for your detail answer. Well, they are with rooster and the rooster is so aggressive, yes, they are over mating. their age is not more than 14 months. i have three males and three females of black silkie in a cage. the all three roosters are so aggressive and mad to mating, even when the females were broody, they cant hide theirselves
