Can chickens and ducks be raised in pens with wire floors?

I was wondering I would be able to use one of my gamebird pens as a chicken coop or a home for a couple of ducks. The pen has a 1/2in by 1/2in wire floor. Most people i see with coops raise them on the gound, do you think it would be okay to raise them on a wire floor?

I would avoid wire, it can cut their feet. You could, however, just lay boards/plywood over the wire, and then cover that with pine shavings.

Not only can it cut their feet, but it can cause deformaties in their feet. It can eventually cripple them. I would not use it, or put something down on top of the wire like Chickentoes said.
