Can chickens catch my foot and/or toenail fungus?

Can my chickens catch my foot and toenail fungus from me? Is it safe to cuddle them? It is on my hands too.
Well, fungal infections can be spread in various ways.

If you have infection on your hands, it would be best to wear gloves when handling your birds (or probably anything else), this way you don't introduce something from the chickens to yourself and vice versa.

As for toenails, I don't think you'd cuddle chickens with those, but you may want to wear some closed toe shoes while doing your chicken chores, less likely to suffer injury when wearing sturdy shoes.

Hopefully you are seeking medical treatment through your Doctor and get this issue cleared up. Consulting our Doctor about any precautions you need to take is always a good idea.

Doctor creams are expensive and never helped. I've been able to at least manage it pretty well with apple cider vinegar soaks and sulfur soap, except when period time happens and it gets a boost in strength. The concept of possibly never being able to properly snuggle chickens again frightens me.

Hi.

Doctor creams are expensive and never helped.

Have you tried "Egyptian Magic Cream"?

I've been able to at least manage it pretty well with apple cider vinegar soaks and sulfur soap, except when period time happens and it gets a boost in strength.

A method with Vinegar would be : to spray Vinegar on your affected toenails at least twice a day - once in the morning, and once in the evening -, and then let it dry before putting socks on.

You do it everyday... the time, months it takes for your toenail to grow completely from the base.
(Do not stop until the healthy nail has fully replaced the affected nail - even once; or you will have to start again from the beginning!!)

I'm sorry, that sounds very frustrating:hugs

I hope you are able to find something that works, and this is a temporary setback, keep reading and researching, you may land upon a better treatment option.
