Can chickens choke on food?

I'm just wondering because I love to hand feed my chickens. They fly up and sit on my lap while I feed them scraps of bread, for example. I tear the bread into tiny pieces but once in awhile they grab a big piece and I'm afraid they might choke on it. Has anyone ever had that happen?

I had a black rosecomb roo choke to death on laying pellets. I had been feeding him laying crumbles but switch to pellets.

He gobble up a bunch of pellets to quickly and choked to death. It was horrible. He could not get them all down and they stuck in his throat. One minute he was alive and well. 5 minutes later he was dead.
