Can Chickens Eat Ajuga (Bugleweed)?

I'm not going to tell you to give it to them and see what they do with it, but I'll tell you my experience with weeds I've pulled and given to my chickens: they eat what's okay for them and don't eat what they either don't like or isn't good for them (I've found out after the fact that I shouldn't have put something in their yard, but it didn't really matter cos they didn't eat it anyway).

Got to agree with the above. I have a small bit of ajuga in the front but when they're out there they don't touch it. Now, that really doesn't mean much with my birds though cause they have abundant greens to browse from and might just prefer others. They won't touch a few that I know for a fact are fine for them. On the other hand if that's all the greens they could eat, they'd probably chow down.

LOL. You have a small bit now but just you wait! That stuff is all in my lawn now. My neighbor gave some to me several years ago but didn't tell me it's invasive. I WISH my birds would come and pluck at it!!

It's actually been there for years. It's almost entirely in all day shade under an oak so while it manages to hold it's own with the St. Augustine grass, it hasn't taken over.

Hi,

Just wondering if it's safe to eat - for chickens, that is.

Got a bunch of it, and I'll pull it up and feed it to the little princesses if it's safe...

Thanks,
Sheila

No it's not. It's on wild foraging lists. Can make tea with it.
