Can Chickens Eat Too Fast and Choke, Have Food Go Down Wind Pipe?

One of the chickens, after I threw feed on the ground, started to devour it. She seemed to choke as if she swallowed some down the wrong side. Can chickens do that?

Can chickens do that?

Yes. It can also happen if they get startled while swallowing small pieces of food. My rooster almost choked one year when he got startled at the breakfast trough. But he did manage to cough it up.
