Can chickens fly out?

I have a fenced in back yard, with a typical chain-link fence about chin-high. I was going to free-range my birds in the yard. If I clip their flight feathers, they shouldn't be able to fly over the fence, right?

Lisa, it really depends and the breed and how motivated they are.

Ozark, the deer netting is not heavy at all. It is a nylon filament web that is coated. It is a very fine structure actually. But it does have a lot of spring to it.

Light breeds will still fly with their wings clipped.
My Silver Spangled Hamburg has no trouble clearing my 6' high fence.

Heavy breeds are much less likely to fly over.
