Can chickens lay more then an egg a day?

Is it possible to get, for example, 5 eggs out of 4 chickens in a day? I've never had a chicken lay more then one a day, but I've heard some peoples chickens lay 2 a day! Is that possible?

It is possible but does not happen very often. I have a white leghorn and in 3 years have had her lay two eggs in one day twice. I have not had it happen with any other bird. I have also read a few other people who have had it happen once or twice. Rare but possible.

My chickens just started laying and I got 6 eggs the other day from 5 girls. My EE laid me 2 green eggs in one day. Like ChickensRDinos said, it's not very common but it's possible!
