can chickens over eat sunflower seeds?

newchicks if at all possible feed your song birds as far away from where your chickens live as possible. Not because they'll overeat, but because wild birds carry disease that can passed on to chickens.
I love the song birds and still feed them now that I have chickens. I just feed them in a location the chickens rarely frequent.

A couple winters ago I fed songbirds in a location accessible to the chickens when the snow melted. That spring some members of the flock got a respiratory disease that was later identified as Lecleria, a weird one. The vet concurred that it probably came from the feed station.
In general I don’t worry about wild birds and don’t see them mixing that much, but having that concentrated area of leftovers just doesn’t seem like a good idea. Especially that winter, which was a hard one, so probably more disease out there. I am letting the neighbors feed the songbirds, since my flock is totally free range at times.
The flock loves their personally distributed afternoon snack of sunflower seeds, seems like some extra fat is a good idea in the winter.
