Can chickens overeat while free-ranging?

If a hen has access to food 24/7 while free ranging, is it possible for it to overeat? Does the hen know when to stop eating and take a break? I’ve seen hens with huge crops, but they just keep eating! I’ve seen my hen do a neck movement after eating a lot too.

Like humans, most chickens know when full is full. The neck movement you are witnessing your girl doing could simply be an adjustment of the contents of her crop.
