Can chickens swim?

I have a creek in my backyard and one day one of my chickens went down there and i got her before she went in so i wanted to know if they can swim.

Techincally they could probably stay afloat for a few minutes but they could easily drown in a creek.

No they can;t swim.

One of the reasons a chicken can hatch Duck eggs but a Duck is not good to hatch chicken eggs is because of this fact. A mother duck will take her " ducklings" into the water but if she has been given chicken eggs to hatch she will take chicks to water as well as her ducklings the ducklings will float but the chicks who follow her into the water will sadly drown.

They can drown in a bigger waterer as well....we keep stones in ours just in case. You never know if a chick is going to try getting a drink from the dogs dish.

well acutally im from bangladesh a place where there tone of chickens cow elephant and anything you can imagine.we had a deep lake we owned on our property i used to love running after the chickens and chasing a rooster who kept peking hens and all there was a fence like the ones used for horses surrounding the lake it had a deck to i was running it jumped on the ledge and began to fly and crow at the same time it was amazing it flew like a humingbird clearly not used to flying but it flew across the lake to the other side and im not sure how long this lake is but it is the rooster looked like this but a bit more dot or so and a bit younger another funny thing is they can swim 100 percent the same rooster now a bit older escaped a fox attack by jumping into the water and swam like a duck and came out jumping and flying it was so cool wish i had a camra and i also saw a hen running away from another hen by jumping in the watr and swam away like a duck and i promise you 100 percent chicken
