Can chicks burn their heads in the incubator?

When several were walking around after hatching they were so close to the heating element.

I was so scared they would get burned. I may have took them out to early because of it. I burned my finger on it reaching in once. Are my chicks just tall? Anyone ever have a problem with this??

Hi! Yes, they can. Doesn't seem to happen often, though.
I keep the viewing windows covered as much as possible during hatch --- they seem to stay a little calmer in the dark.
