Can Chicks eat layer crumbles?

Can Chicks eat layer crumbles? Will it hurt them at all?

or would it be better to have my adults (coming 1yr) eat starter?

Don't feed chicks layer feed of any kind. It has too much calcium and will damage their kidneys and wreak other havoc on their bodies. You can, however, feed layers starter feed as long as you add supplemental calcium, such as free-choice oyster shell. You don't want your chicks to eat the oyster shell though.

I feed my layers Purina Start n Grow and add free-choice oyster shell and they do wonderfully on it.

And layer feed won't have the extra protein that those little bodies need to grow.
