My chicks are 6 weeks old. Once they grow up and have chicks of their own can those chicks stay with mom or do I have to keep them separated for a while until they get bigger so they don’t get killed by the rooster?

Well, what I know is that if there are other hens in the coop they will peck chicks that aren't their own.

So does that mean I need to separate until they get big enough to defend themselves?

Well it really depends on the temperament of your flock. If they are calm then it may be fine to leave them alone. But all hens are different, and if you decide to keep them separated you' ll need to introduce the chicks(they have to be a few weeks old) during the evening when all the chickens are sleeping.
