I'm thinking of raising different breeds of quail in a large aviarie together and am wondering if they will fight or try to mix breed I'm a beginner and just raise them to watch.

The only time I have seen this done was when I visited another breeder. She had male bobwhite with female California. They did crossbreed, but the offspring were not as pretty as either parent species.

I think the only reason this worked for her was the fact she had separate sexes of each species mixed. I think if she had mixed male bobwhite with male California, there would have been fighting and killing.

That being said, it is never a good idea to interbreed species. Keeping each species pure is very important to long term survival of any species.

I have Japanese coturnix and was interested in mixing hens in the same coup of varying breeds. Which breeds would be best suited for housing with my cots? Would Californians be safe? Buttons?

I like to raise and release quail. So inter breeding is not and issue for me.
Does anyone know if you can hatch and raise different species together and raise them without issues until time for release?

Well, first of all, this thread is over 6 years old. You should make your own thread.

And you should REALLY not be introducing multiple species, especially potential hybrids, into your area. You should only be releasing good stock (i.e. wild, non-domesticated birds) of whatever species is already native to your area.

And, no, it's extremely unlikely that it would work at all, let alone without issues. There's a reason most people don't do that.
