Can dominant white chickens have patchy skin?

This may be an obvious answer, but can a chicken with 2 copies of dominant white have patchy skin? Or does the patchy skin mean that they are actually only carrying one copy of dominant white and they will likely have “paint” coloring as an adult? Picture of a chick that has me questioning, look at the legs. Could also see patchy skin better right after hatch before it fluffed up. Both parents are paint, so either color is possible. Thanks so much!

I've heard dominant white can dilute skin color, but paint may too. If it is paint I don't believe it will gain more spots because the spots stick with it for life, but some birds that are genetically paint will be solid white. I really don't know which it is.

Thank you! There is also a possibility that this chick is lavender paint, as I have one other chick that looks lavender paint. I just can’t find any colored feathers on this one so I wasn’t sure. Maybe when it feathers out I will know. I just didn’t want to rehome it if it may be lavender paint 😂

Also had a white chick with zero dark skin hatch. But unfortunately don’t know if it is dominant white, recessive white, or both. But I know it definitely isn’t paint. (Also out of two paint parents.)

Thanks!!! Still trying to learn how the white genes can affect skin color!

Dominant White doesn't effect skin pigmentation, but the strength of Fibromelanosis will play part in how dark, or light your bird's skin maybe. 1 copy may result in solid Grey/Blue, or Marbled/patchy skin, some cases only spotted feet, & white, or yellow skin.

Two copies of the Fibro gene may appear as Dark Grey/Dark Blue/Black Skin, & won't have any of the uneven Marbling.

I've had full Fibro birds throw pure white skinned birds though, which is odd, but certainly not common.

Thanks! That does help my understanding! Several of my birds only have one copy of fibro but they look all black (they are solid black or lavender birds) but because of this there is always the chance of getting babies without the fibro genes at all.

@MysteryChicken Do you know if other “paint” chickens that aren’t silkies have spots on their skin? Like Ermine ameruacanas? Maybe it would manifest the same if these babies dont have the fibro gene?
