Can dominant white chickens have patchy skin?

@MysteryChicken Do you know if other “paint” chickens that aren’t silkies have spots on their skin? Like Ermine ameruacanas? Maybe it would manifest the same if these babies dont have the fibro gene?
I've got a Paint Easter Egger, & Paint mixed breed Hen, they just got white skin, no dark patches on skin.

Also I believe Ermine isn't just Paint.

True, I think Ermine is paint and mottled, possibly. And mottled causes white skin. So I guess ermines probably do have all white skin. Interesting, I hadn’t thought about that!

I don't know about that but I have seen a very freckled Splash Modern game and mottling can cause that as well...

Doubtful. No one uses mottled in Ermine Ameraucana breeding. The main difference is the evenness of pattern, paint makes patches and ermine is evenly distributed. But we don't know the gene that causes this.

Oh really! I had read somewhere on this forum that ermine was mottled plus one dom white gene. So ermine is a totally separate gene from dominant white? Is it found in any other breeds? I guess I need to study up on ermine!

No
Ermine is just another word for paint: one copy of dominant white on a black bird.

Apparently the name "Ermine" as a variety was chosen because paint Silkies are selectively bred to have large patches of color while Ermines are more evenly spotted.
I don't love the word Ermine for that though, Ermine in Europe means Columbian.

Wow thank you so much for clarifying! Next time I see an ermine chicken, I’ll try to examine the skin 😉😂

I think mottling is in Ermine, cuz I don't think it's a mutation in Dominant White.

I would like to get some Ermine Chickens to experiment with, just to see if mottling is present, because it makes more sense for the evenness of the pattern.

It's just selective breeding. Why won't you believe the experience of breeders?
Most "paint" chickens are actually Ermine. I believe that is the natural state.
Paint Silkies were just bred to have big patches.
